About Us
The Tree of Life has a heart that connects us all
Hospice Fredericton is a community program providing the terminally ill and their families with comfort and support in the face of advanced illness, death and bereavement.
Hospice Fredericton volunteers and staff provide non-medical support, working with our medical partners - Extra-Mural, Family Physicians, the Palliative Care Unit and other hospital and community healthcare teams – to help people to live as well as possible with a disease that has no cure, and to support families to cope with loss
Here are some examples of the activities volunteers assist with:
- reading to a client, or holding a hand, or simply being present
- staying with a client while family members take a needed break or keep an appointment
- shopping or doing errands for a client
- listening
- helping clients write or tell their life stories
- cooking, light household chores
- providing help with makeup, hair and personal care
- working on crafts or other projects
Who is eligible for Hospice Fredericton Services?
Any individual or family member coping with terminal illness who wishes to remain at home may request our services.
Referrals may be made by:
(a) Any health care agency including the Palliative Care Unit, the Oncology Clinic, the Extra-Mural Program, and physicians, with the permission of the individual and/or family;
(b) An ill individual and/or family member or caregiver (Call 472-8185).
How is Hospice Fredericton funded?
Hospice Fredericton services are free. Hospice Fredericton relies primarily on financial support from the community it serves, and from fund-raising events. Donations, personal bequests and memorials are welcome and vital to the success of Hospice Fredericton.
